Basis of the edition

The present edition is based on the photographs available at the Mainzer Photoarchiv of the Hethitologie Portal Mainz, as well as the available hand-copies and relevant secondary literature up to 2019. When the original manuscripts have been collated, this is noted in the commentary.

Commentary

This fragment may refer to an area south of Ḫattuša, if the probably reference to the town Šanawitta can be taken as a clue for the geographical setting of the text (see commentary on obv. ii 6′).

ii 3′: Note the unique spelling EZEN4 zé-na-da-an, cf. ḫa-an-da-za in l. 5′.

ii 5′: The spring festival conforms here with the autumn festival, like in KUB 17.35 iii 20 and in KUB 38.19+ i 13′.

ii 6′: If correct, the reading [URUš]a-na-ú-i-ta-za may refer to a southern Šanawitta, possibly the same treated in KUB 58.15, to be kept distinct from the Šanaḫu(i)t(t)a known from Old Assyrian and Old Hittite sources (see Miller 2009: 5). The same spelling is found in KBo 4.13, an AN.DAḪ.ŠUM festival fragment with an offering list for the gods of various towns which are located south of Ḫattuša (Miller ibidem, citing Forlanini).
